Benefit to Feature World-Renowned Speakers, Food Tastings, Films, and Cruelty-Free Crafts


The Seed: A Vegan Experience, will plant its roots within the cultivating grounds of SoHo NYC on June 16 and 17, 2012, and invites people of all lifestyles who are interested in learning how they can improve their health and overall well-being by obtaining the countless benefits of a plant-based, compassionate life.  

The nation’s leading experts and brands will all gather at The Seed for this special vegan weekend. Attendees will meet and mingle with fellow health-conscious individuals while perusing 25,000 square feet of veganism. Attending guests will enjoy a variety of vegan-inspired activities including cooking demonstrations, films, and presentations by prominent vegan advocates such as bestselling author Kathy Freston (Veganist), Ironman champion Brendan Brazier, medical doctor Joel Fuhrman (Eat to Live), and popular podcast personalities Colleen Patrick-Goudreau (Compassionate Cooks) and Jasmin Singer and Mariann Sullivan (Our Hen House). 

Guests will feast on and sample plant-based food products from culinary vendors ranging all the way from Brooklyn hipster hangout, Foodswings (famous for their vegan Butterfinger shake) to upscale vegan mainstay, Blossom. With a multitude of earth-friendly vendors offering cruelty-free wares, including cosmetics and clothing, participants will also gain enlightenment on the rapidly growing market for products that are made to satisfy what The Seed’s co-founder, Erin Red, calls “an optimal, compassionate, and environmentally-conscious lifestyle.” As a bonus, Red adds, “Bust Magazine will be organizing a ‘Vegan Craftacular,’ where independent artists will be showcasing and selling their DIY vegan art. This event will truly cover all aspects of a vegan lifestyle, from the food, to the fashion, to the fun!”
 
Harvey Fung, the owner of SoHo’s 82MERCER, is excited about the game-changing nature of the event that is about to take place at his chic and spacious venue. “Veganism first hit my radar after seeing the documentary, Forks Over Knives,” Fung says, referring to Lee Fulkerson’s 2011 film that exposed the many unknown horrors of consuming a meat, milk, and egg-laden diet, and touting the many health benefits of consuming a plant-based one instead. “The Seed will allow us to showcase the accessibility, deliciousness, and advantages of veganism, from a health, environmental, and compassionate perspective.”

In addition to the enlightening experiences The Seed promises to offer, proceeds that bloom from this event will benefit the work of two non-profit organizations; The New York Coalition for Healthy School Food (a statewide organization that works to improve the health and well-being of New York’s students), and Mercy for Animals (a national organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals).

The Seed: A Vegan Experience will take place on Saturday, June 16 (10:00 am – 7:00 pm) and Sunday, June 17 (10:00 am – 5:00 pm). Early bird discounts begin at $15 per day ($25 for the whole weekend). Follow The Seed on Twitter, @TheSeedExp.
